Golden Lion Environmental Policy

We are lucky enough to live and run a business in what we feel is one of the most beautiful locations in the South West. Surrounded by traditional Cornish farmland we overlook a wonderfully peaceful and atmospheric reservoir, Stithians Lake. Disturbed only by the calls of native and migrating birds or by the sound of wind catching sail, this blue jewel in the centre of West Cornwall is our home and we are proud of it.

Minimising the impact of our business on our local environment is therefore of great importance to us as we want both our own and our visitors children to be able to enjoy what we enjoy now in years to come. How we manage our resources, our consumption and our waste not only has an impact on the local and wider environment but  also on the costs of operating our business, so it makes absolute sense for us to operate as efficiently as possible without compromising on the quality of products and services that we offer to our customers. Choosing local suppliers and local produce wherever possible not only helps to minimise our carbon footprint, but also enables us to showcase some of the best food and drink produce that the county has to offer.

We help ensure a sustainable future for our local wildlife, we have set up a visitor gifting scheme for Cornwall Wildlife Trust. Five pence from every cup of tea and coffee sold at The Golden Lion is donated to the Trust to help them continue their important work protecting Cornwall’s wildlife for the future. We feel that we have already achieved some success in making our business ‘greener’ but we are not complacent and will continue to work hard to do better. We would like you, our customers, to work with us in achieving our aims, by leaving only your car with us while you enjoy our surroundings, and taking only memories and photographs with you from our lakeside home.
